Welcome to Chesterfield, Missouri.
Chesterfield is located in St. Louis County just west of St Louis along Highway 94 on the banks of the Missouri River near the Illinois state line. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 46,802. Six-lane I-64 (U.S. Hwy. 40) connects the City with the Mississippi and Missouri waterfronts.
A network of other roadways serves the community providing access to work, schools, churches. shopping and State of Missouri and St. Louis County parks.
A Comprehensive Plan adopted by the City in 1990 and updated through the years when deemed appropriate guides development. The plan ensures that Chesterfield's residential and commercial developments are balanced with the area's open green space and wooded hills. Large and medium size single-family homes, townhouses, condominiums and apartment complexes reflect quality housing stock.
When it comes to offering its citizens the finest in private, public, even university-level education, Chesterfield graduates with honors. Along with being served by two of Missouri's most respected and successful AAA rated districts - Parkway and Rockwood - numerous private and parochial schools also dot quiet suburban streets and serve the educational needs and desires of Chesterfield residents.
Founded in 1866, St. Luke's Hospital is a 493-bed, full-service, not-for-profit hospital that has been located in Chesterfield since 1975. St. Luke's is a premier, regional healthcare provider, specializing in cardiac services, cancer services, general medicine, neurosciences, obstetrics and gynecology, outpatient services, pediatrics and comprehensive surgical services. Its advanced facilities and specialty focus programs include St. Luke's Institute for Health Education, the Breast Care Center, Special Delivery Suites, the Howard A. Stamper Radiation Oncology Center, St. Luke's Sports Medicine Center and the Congestive Heart Failure Management Center.
In addition to acute care services offered at the hospital campus, St. Luke's facilities provide the region with a broad range of other accessible healthcare services. Surrey Place provides skilled nursing, residential and respite care; the Pediatric Care Center provides medical care in a private practice setting to the underserved children in North St. Louis County; and four urgent care centers in Ballwin, Ellisville, St. Charles and Wentzville provide prompt medical treatment for non-emergency care seven days a week.
A visit to Faust Park is a must. The Butterfly House displays 60 species of butterflies in a natural habitat and is one of only a few in the nation. Other park highlights are a working 1920s carousel, an authentic historic village, and the home of Missouri's second governor, Frederick Bates. The chances are good that you'll be able to enjoy a Concert in the Park, or one of several festivals.
Other things to see and do in Chesterfield include: Performances at the West County YMCA's 320-seat Chesterfield Community Theater where four theatrical troupes present a wide range of programs. The museum, studio and home of internationally renowned sculptor Don Wiegand. The Art Gallery of Hog Hollow, an art lover's delight in Hog Hollow Shopping Center. The Old House at Hog Hollow is also a must-see when shopping is on the agenda. The St. Louis Aviation Museum at Spirit of St. Louis Airport in Chesterfield Valley. Many nearby parks such as Babler State Park, Queeny Park, Faust Park and Central Park.
Chesterfield offers its vigorous and active population plenty of opportunities for indoor and outdoor recreation. Visitors are always welcome. The U.S. Ice Sports Complex with three indoor ice rinks. The outdoor Chesterfield Aquatic Center in Central Park offers an 8,000-square-foot leisure pool and a 25-yard lap pool. The Jewish Community Center West, the West County YMCA and the Chesterfield Athletic Club offer a variety of amenities for all ages. The athletic fields of the Chesterfield Valley Athletic Complex are a source of local pride. The complex encompasses 105 acres and dozens of baseball/ softball fields, soccer fields, pavilions, playgrounds, and a concession stand.
If you're a golf enthusiast, practice your swing at the Chesterfield Valley Golf Center, a facility with 50 lighted tees and a 320-yard driving range. There are also numerous public and private golf courses in the vicinity.
